January Newsletter

Dear Friends,

As you know, the past several years have been difficult at best for the arts. The downturn in the economy forced many organizations to shut their doors. Thankfully, many Georgians recognize the value of having a wide range of theatres and cultural arts in their communities and generously support them. Thank you for your encouragement and generosity as the Atlanta Intown Theatre Partnership (AITP) moves into the next year of our collaboration.

Vibrant and sustainable arts require a strong base of theatres to successfully attract and serve a broad and diverse audience. Theatre brings people together to laugh, to cry, to think, and to feel. Theatre builds bridges across our differences and allows us to celebrate, be inspired, be empowered, and learn from and about each other.

The current economy calls for new models to achieve success. By collaborating and combining the strengths of five Atlanta mid-sized professional theatre companies (Actor’s Express, Atlanta Shakespeare Tavern, Horizon Theatre Company, 7 Stages, and Theatrical Outfit) the AITP can ensure that Atlanta’s theatre community will grow and thrive in the 21st century.

Although the partnership is relatively new, each of the five partner theatres has been in existence for nearly 30 years, and together they have a combined budget of more than $5 Million. Whether it’s new play development, children’s programming, world premieres, the classics, international exchange, or celebrating cultural diversity, every member theatre plays an important role in connecting Atlanta audiences with high quality theatre and educational experiences. While the mission and focus of each theatre is unique, the devotion to the development of a vibrant Atlanta theatre community is the bond they share.

Community support like yours makes it possible for the AITP to continue presenting exceptional, artistic productions and programs that educate, entertain, and inspire. The greater your investment, the greater the impact you will have on the arts in Atlanta.

Thank you again for your generosity and interest in continuing the tradition of great theatre in Atlanta.

Happy New Year!

Sincerely,
Pamela Benson
